With your membership, you are supporting the Middle East Book Award, established in 1999 to recognize books for children and young adults that contribute meaningfully to understanding of the Middle East, and is awarded in three categories (Picture Book, Youth Literature, and Youth Nonfiction). A committee of MEOC members, including teachers, librarians, outreach coordinators, and other educators select award winners, which have a national audience reaching reach school librarians, outreach specialists, classroom teachers, and universities all over the country.
MEOC publicizes the Middle East Book Award winners through its website, national listservs for educators, and at national conferences.
Institutional members can also claim co-sponsorship of national outreach projects coordinated by MEOC:
An annual report detailing MEOC’s activities, including statistics on attendees, partner organizations, and outcomes, will be sent to institutional members so that the information can be used for Title VI reporting, and for other activity reports and grant submissions as needed.

- MEOC’s participation at the National Council for the Social Studies, the largest gathering of social studies educators in the United States. MEOC’s participation in this conference, which takes place in late fall, includes a booth in the exhibition hall.
Institutional members can display and distribute promotional material about outreach resources through the booth. In previous years we have distributed 400-500 sets of promotional materials to conference attendees.
Institutional members also have the ability to register personnel attending the conference through our booth at a deeply discounted exhibitor registration rate.
Upcoming NCSS conferences will be held in Chicago (2018), Austin (2019), Washington, DC (2020), and Minneapolis (2021). - MEOC’s participation in the National Council of Teachers of English conference, in conjunction with our sister programs in Latin American Studies, African Studies, and South Asian Studies. This conference targets English teachers and is used to promote the Middle East Book Award and programs that target English/Language Arts educators.
In the past, this has been an unexpectedly successful venue for MEOC, as we are one of very few exhibitors promoting literature about world cultures and diverse world regions at this particular conference.
Future NCTE conferences will be held in Houston (2018), Baltimore (2019), Denver (2020), and Louisville (2021). - The Global Read Webinar series, co-sponsored with the Americas Award, the Childrens’ Africana Book Award, and the South Asia Book Award, which promotes award winning titles each year (one from each of the four co-sponsoring book award programs). This webinar series, piloted in the spring of 2018, attracts a national audience of teacher-educators, and promotes the award winning literature selected by each organization.
